Born with it....

as i was cleaning my dog's "leavin's" i realized a weird fact, stepping in your own feces isn't a trait your born with.

The fires of Hell

last evening, before my wife got home, i battled with my furnace, and lost. as i was trying to forget the cold, my wife came home and immediately went to the closet and put on a sweater. after dawning ample protection from the encroaching chill, she proceeded to "encourage me" to fix the furnace.

after researching my brand for a bit online, and realized that furnaces don't ever work right, i slowly headed for the garage to tackle the beast. my game plan that was formed while reading stuff online immediately evaporated as i uncovered the cover plate providing access to the guts of the monster.

i wiggled some stuff, tapped others testing to see if they would electrocute me, blew some dust of some wire, and replaced the cover. this was the proverbial "kicking the tires." i went the the circuit breaker board, threw on the power, and... wouldn't cha' know... it worked!

i triumphantly strutted into the kitchen and announced to my wife that i had fulfilled my manly duties for the evening and she should proceed with dinner and squelch the conversation. she did the former and laughed at the latter.

i was happy to be warm and full.

First meeting

i am the president of a college veteran club. well, as of today i am. i was involved about a year ago, then psuedo involved a couple months ago, and now president. the club was pretty much dead and needed some life put back into it.

there were actually only about 3 vets that came. excluding the four people who pretty much had to show up. i think it will grow pretty quickly though. we plan on hosting a ... my cat just jumped behind my 50" plasma and i'm worried he will knock it over. ... whew, crisis averted. lol, i'm watching blue planet in hd. my cat walked in front of the tv, looked at the screen, and was startled by a 5" ant right in his face. in his defense it was a wicked looking amazon ant.
but i digress... our first planned event is a bowling night. although there isn't anything inherantly "militaryish" about bowling, the bar next to the lanes is.

Fun in the morning.

i find it a constant challenge to take my dogs out in the morning. i hate it. they hate it. we resent each other for the necessity. if cleaning up "accidents" was a little bit funner, this daily ritual wouldn't be necessary.

i have a young beagle/lab mix and a scottish terrier. i bought the terrier first and, in a throwback to my navy days, named him chief. suprisingly, he has the additude of a chief and gives me looks like im his 20 year old ensign ordering him to clean his rack. he was well on his way to becoming accident free when i brought the new puppy into his world. now, when ever i see him happily wagging his tail, i know their is a little gift waiting for me just around the couch.

oscar, the puppy, quickly took to training. much like a new ensing would i imagine. after their eventual liquid deposits in the back yard they start to fight and bite each other... until i look away and move into another room. then they curl up next to each other and sleep on the couch.

im going to make some coffee now, akin to taking in the holy spirits blood, this concludes my morning ritual as i park it infront of the tv.

...and so it begins

as you can probably guess from the title, i am not only a veteran (wait for it...) but a current student as well. i usually have a lot of "projects" going on and i'll update this with whats going on as i get around to it.

i'm not sure who exactly will read this, i hope to make it entertaining, as my day to day experiences usually tend to produce good stories. i am also thinking about making a website dedicated to helping veterans understand and access their benefits. the catalyst for this undertaking will be the topic of this, my first post.

i work as a workstudy coordinator at a veterans hospital. without going into too much detail, i help student veterans get some easy money by helping other vets. this job tends to introduce interesting people into my life, such as the one that i talked to today. as i finished processing his time sheet for payment, he mentioned that he had to go work on his business. always looking for a hookup i asked him about it. turns out he has a simple website that helps him generate about 20 or so bucks a month. he boasts that it will grow in the future because his blogs that generate the revenue will continue to receive web traffic and thus generate income for him.

right away i sensed an interesting little hobby (i recently just bought my first home and was looking for something to get into) and so, after asking, he told me about a website called "the 30 day challenge" here's the website if your interested. i assume that it will tell me about setting a site up and what-not. ...should be fun.

i'm going to make a website devoted to helping veterans understand government education forms (exciting stuff huh.) i was a recruiter for the navy in a previous life so i know how troublesome the forms can be, and how scrutinized they are when eventually turned in. a simple blog like system should do the trick at first. i plan on checking out the website when i get home and then getting things together.
